Hello! My name is Christy Sohn. I am the teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing at Rymfire Elementary School. I recently graduated from Flagler College, where I studied Elementary Education and Deaf Education. Though I have lived many places thoughout my life, I did most of my growing up in Orange Park, so I consider myself a Floridian through-and-through. Now I live in St. Augustine with my husband and my dog.
I chose to study Deaf Education, truly, on a whim. Back in High School, I focused on studying Theater and I wanted to be a Drama teacher. However, upon filling out my application for Flagler College, I suddenly changed my mind. I had always held an interest in American Sign Language, but never had the opportunity to study the language. I took a chance and wrote "Deaf Education" in the space labeled "Intended Major." It ended up being the right choice for me! I have had the opportunity to work with some amazing people and realize my true potential and calling.
In my classroom, I try to make learning as fun as possible. I want my students to enjoy coming to my class. I know that the average person would walk into my class and think that I am just playing games, but what I see is my students being actively engaged in my lessons and truely demonstrating that they understand the concepts.
